We hope you enjoy your first evening with Aberporth & District Dog Club

Over the coming weeks we will help you to teach your dog:

  • To give an instant response to their name
  • To sit, lie down and stand on one single command from you
  • To walk comfortably by your side without pulling
  • To stay in position when you tell them to
  • To come back to you when called

You will need to bring with you each week a supply of tasty tit-bit – we recommend using something soft and flavoursome that can be broken or cut into Very small pieces. All dogs have different tastes - mild or strong cheese, livercake, sausage, chicken etc. A special toy kept only for training sessions is also a good idea. With many active, intelligent young dogs it is necessary to have a rotation of toys/rewards to keep their interest.

Although many dogs do accept the social gathering at Dog Club from the very first evening as if they had always been going, some do behave 'out of character' maybe barking, pulling to or away from the other dogs, some even hide under the bench for the first week or two. We would like to assure you that almost without exception by about the third week owners are pulled in through the door by dogs eager to meet up with their new friends, the barkers quieten down and the shy shrinking violet turns into the life & soul of the party!
